Artist Statement

​

In my paintings and works on paper I seek to capture the essence of the natural world, connecting with specific places and human experiences. Color and light are portals to that connection, an embodiment of walks in the landscape. Whether working on site en plein air or in the studio, I explore relationships between the natural and built environment. Nature shapes us in a variety of ways: in childhood, I found curiosity and wonder in the natural world. Experiencing periods of profound loss during my adult years, I found solace in nature. This range of experience informs my work, fueled by the healing power of visual language and the creative process.
